Energetic Boundaries: A Story of Protection and Prayer
The Awakening
The first time I learned about energetic boundaries, I was lying on a thin mattress in an attic that had been turned into a makeshift infirmary. I was in the most acute phase of hemorrhagic dengue fever, drifting between fever dreams and hallucinations. A bewitching sorcerer appeared at my bedside—sometimes carrying snakes, sometimes kneeling with fire in their mouth. A shape-shifting force haunted the room, moving through the air and lifting me off the sheets.
I had no belief system that accounted for what was happening. I was terrified. In desperation, I scrolled through my phone searching for something—anything—that could make sense of these unseen forces.
The Search for Protection
That’s when I found an audiobook by Cyndi Dale called Energetic Boundaries. Her voice was calm, rational, and oddly comforting. She spoke of seven “syndromes” of energetic vulnerability—vampire, psychic sensitive, chameleon, mule, environ, paperdoll, and healer. I recognized myself in all of them.
She explained how trauma, illness, ancestral wounding, and violence can erode the subtle layers of protection that keep us safe. Her meditations and teachings became a lifeline. I listened day and night, practiced salt baths, prayed, placed stones around my bed, and bathed in flowers for cleansing. Slowly, the hallucinations faded. The psychic pain softened. I began to feel like myself again.
Calling on the Plant and Stone Elders
At that time, I had been in Belize working with Mayan healers and contracted dengue during a period of intense ceremonial work. I came to believe that I had absorbed some form of spiritual illness—what others might call “evil.” Since I hadn’t arrived with that language or cosmology, I hadn’t considered my own energetic vulnerability. That experience changed everything.
When I returned home, I began asking the plants and stones to teach me about protection. I started blending essences intuitively, combining those that felt like guardians and filters—those that could hold the line between what belongs to us and what doesn’t. Out of that dialogue was born a formula I named Energetic Boundaries.
A Liquid Prayer for Protection
At first, I used it only for myself. After volatile arguments with my then-partner, a few drops would help my nervous system return to balance. I placed it in the corners of my room before bed to quiet nightmares. I added it to my soaps and shampoos so that I was, quite literally, covered in protection.
Over time, I noticed that holding space for others no longer left me flattened. I felt tired in the right way—well-used, not drained. When I began offering the formula to clients, they too reported a sense of clearing, protection, and renewal. It became a gentle ally for anyone who felt porous, overextended, or spiritually weary.
A Trusted Ally
Today, Energetic Boundaries remains one of my most beloved formulas—a steadfast friend in the Flower Shop and a loyal companion in my own practice. These plant and stone elders act as guardians at the gate, filtering what we do not need to hold so that the love we have to give and receive remains unencumbered.
You can now find Energetic Boundaries at Pinto in New Mexico, Photosynthesis in Olympia, WA, or through my online apothecary. May it serve as it once served me—an offering of protection, clarity, and return.
